planting positivity.
For every word we utter and for every action we take, there is an intricate web of consequences. By telling ourselves, “I am brilliant and worthwhile,”; by telling someone, “You are beautiful and I have faith in you,”; by taking time out of our day to be kind to ourselves and to others, we are planting seeds of positivity from which only good things can grow. Imagine that the karma yoga class you just taught inspired just one woman to find peace with herself, which in turn led her to overcome her eating disorder, which in turn led her to go on to help other young women struggling with body image issues.
But when we tell ourselves, “I am stupid, fat, ugly, worthless,” and when these insecurities of ours cause us to convey this hurtful and damaging message to others, we plant seeds of negativity that turn into thorns and weeds that cripple the growth of good things. Imagine that the sarcastic comment you made about your friend’s test score made him feel so bad about himself that he changed his mind about applying to law school because he was convinced he would never get in.
Once again, we are faced a choice: do I want to plant positivity, or negativity? Do I want to cultivate the best qualities in yourself and in others, or do I want to spoil any growth that could occur? Through our words and actions, we control the universe. Sow your seeds wisely.
